Episode 3: Week of January 30, 2015

The guys jump right into cutting edge entertainment and toy news this week with Drew Bennett shedding light on Disney Junior’s new animated science show “Miles From Tomorrowland” (featuring recurring guest spots from Wil Wheaton, Bill Nye, Alton Brown and Mark Hamill) and and Ozobot, a new and thoroughly amazing little science toy.

Jeff then talks about how podcast discovery has claimed the space in his fanboy heart that musical discovery once did, and expressed tremendous appreciation and admiration for the podcasts from Life of Dad, 99% Invisible, The Frame, and Canadian Dad’s Chris Read, and Adam brought everyone up to speed on the smash hits Serial and Freakonomics podcasts, and joined Jeff in praising the City Dads Group’s Modern Dad podcast.

Pop Fizz also makes an appearance in episode 3, wearing his new hot pink Love Potion outfit for Valentine’s Day. Jeff laments the repeated use of Pop Fizz by Activision for their chase variant, while Drew and Adam gush over the voice work of Bobcat Goldthwait. We also discuss the relative worth of collecting the highly collectible amiibo figures from Nintendo.

In casting news, Adam brought up the new all-female Ghostbusters reboot, while Jeff bemoaned, in general, the idea of remaking classics and advocated for more original ideas in the world, while all three guys agreed that Emma Watson as Belle is perfect casting.

Finally, the guys jump back into movies and TV with Jeff gushing over The Boxtrolls and having finally seen Whiplash and Adam talking wistfully about the end of Parenthood and the worth of going back to watch Rescue Me from the beginning.
